Hair removal lotion can be expensive to buy, when I was looking for the cheapest best value hair removal lotion I stumbled upon a recipe to make your own hair removal lotion.  I must stress its not my recipe, and you can’t always believe everything you read on the internet ! You will however know exactly what’s in your home-made hair removal lotion – no nasty chemicals.

The recipe is as follows to make your own hair removal lotion:

1lb sugar, 2 lemons,  1 1/2 teaspoons of glycerin,  and several strips of cotton muslin.

You can buy Glycerin at craft stores, pharmacists, medical stores or drug stores. Cotton Muslin can be found in craft stores and DIY stores, it often is sold in long legths which you can cut to size.

The first part of making your own hair removal lotion is to squeeze two lemons, then heat up and melt the sugar, and the lemons to the melted sugar and simmer while stiring gently until it turns to a pale golen colour. Finally add the gycerin and mix it all together.

Place the mixture in a cool place and allow it to set. This can take a few hours. MAKE SURE IT IS COLD before proceeding.

Its good advice to test on a small area of skin first as a precaution against allergies.
Apply the home made hair removal lotion with a spatula to your body in the direction of hair growth. Push a strip of cotton muslin down onto the hair removal lotion and press firmly several times.

Pull the  cloth away from your skin in the opposite direction to the hair growth. It should be no more painful than removing a plaster.
Again common sense suggests trying small areas first until you master the technique.

The cloths can be washed and reused. You can wash and reuse the muslin cloths over and over. This homemade hair removal lotion should keep you free from unwanted hair for several weeks.  Regrowth could be thinner as well.

  2. Wouldn’t it get hard if I allow it to get cold? Can I store it in the refrigerator and use it later without heating it?
