Hair Removal Lotion
Hair Removal Lotion – What they don’t tell you !
Investigations show that we don’t read instructions. In which case maybe we should when it comes to hair removal lotion. So don’t throw away your razors just yet – read the instructions on your hair removal lotion bottle first.
Favourite hair removal lotions include Nair, Veet and Sally Hansen. All three offer warnings including a note that the hair removal lotion can cause skin rashes and an allergic reaction and even burning. Particularly they warn against using their hair removal lotions if you have sensitive skin as a change of colour may occur.
Chemical burning of the skin can be initiated by the corrosive chemicals contained within hair removing lotions. All unwanted hair removal products suggest you test a small section of skin, rinse and leave it for 24 hours . In theory you should do this every time you use the product not just the first time.
Its also important when using hair removal lotions that the hair removal lotion is totally washed off of the skin within the period stated in the instructions . Often the use of soap is not recommended for the rinsing
Veet suggests not using perfumes, deodorants or other similar products for a 24 hours after application of the hair removal lotion. Other unwanted hair removal products suggest that you should also avoid exposure to sunlight for a whole day after treatment.
Skin reactions can occur if you are allergic to the hair removal lotion, these can include minor skin irritations with small red bumps or slight rashes that usually dissipate in 2 to 3 days. Sometimes the reaction can be more serious requiring a trip to the the doctors or even hospital.
In general hair removal lotions work by dissolving the unwanted hair with the lotion. Veet includes a special device shaped like a razor but without a blade. You use the tool to scrape away the hair removal lotion once the product application time has been reached. Again rinsing with only clear water no soap.
One aspect of the Sally Hansen hair removal lotion that was reported as being negative by reviewers was the strong smell of the hair removal lotion. The bottle is clearly marked for external use only and to avoid the odour a well ventilated room is also recommended. Other people reported that the smell was not really bad at all.
One other thing to bear in mind, the hair removal lotions can have the ability to damage and stain bathroom fixtures and fittings, just use common sense and read the instructions or you could be throwing away more than just your unwanted hair !
